Woman arrested in Nordea fraud case

Police in Oslo are holding a 49-year-old woman suspected of posing as a wealthy customer of Nordea Bank, and ultimately emptying the customer’s account with the help of two accomplices.

Police arrested the woman late last week and brought her in for questioning over the weekend.  Two alleged male accomplices were arrested earlier this month in what’s billed as the largest bank fraud in Norwegian history.

All three are suspected of arranging fraudulent transfers amounting to NOK 89 million (about USD 15 million) from a wealthy woman’s account at Nordea Bank. Police had been searching for the woman since the two men were arrested.

They revealed few details of her arrest or alleged involvement, other than to say that police investigators “received good tips” from the public, especially after releasing a video surveillance camera’s photo of the woman.

Her lawyer said the woman denies any involvement in the bank fraud.
