Gadhafi’s Ukrainian nurse ‘in Oslo’

One of Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gadhafi’s infamous Ukrainian nurses is reported to be in Norway and applying for asylum, according to newspaper sources.

Newspaper VG claims that a number of independent sources suggest that the Ukrainian nurse is Galyna Kolotnytska, who gained media attention last year as part of US embassy documents leaked by Wikileaks that described her as a “voluptuous blonde” who always traveled with Gadhafi. Kolotnytska, who was one of four Ukrainian nurses working for the Libyan leader they called “pappa,” is now believed to be in the Refstad asylum seekers’ facility in Oslo.

Kolotnytska apparently informed the police who she was as they interviewed her on Wednesday. She had been staying in the Ukraine from February 27 onwards, after she had been evacuated from Libya by embassy staff. She and the other nurses have denied being Gadhafi’s lovers.

Since leaving Libya, Kolotnytska has refused to give interviews, or come forward with information about Gadhafi’s health or daily routine. She also refused to be interviewed by VG, who visited the open asylum seeker centre at Refstad. Officials at the centre nonetheless did confirm that her case had been passed on to the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration. It is not clear at this stage whether Kolotnytska has a lawyer.
