Heavily armed police arrested a man in Larvik, southwest of Oslo, on Tuesday after he fired shots near a day care center and then disappeared into a nearby forest.
Petter Aronsen of the Vestfold Police District told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) that the man was arrested just before 2pm and was carrying a weapon described as gas-powered air gun.
He was said to be between 20 and 30 years old and had pulled out what employees at Røbøl Barnehagen thought was a pistol, which he shot into the air.
Children at the day care center were taken inside and there were no injuries.
Police cordoned off a large area around the day care center as they searched for the man.
