Anniversary greeting to readers

May 18, 2012

While Norway was celebrating its Constitution Day on the 17th of May, this website was celebrating its third anniversary. It was no coincidence that we chose the Norwegians’ most festive day of the year to launch Views and News from Norway – www.newsinenglish.no.

Since the 17th of May in 2009, we’ve been trying to keep up with the Norwegians. In all honesty, it’s quite a challenge. There’s been an enormous amount of news coming out of Norway, especially since the terrorist attacks of last year.

Click here for a video message from editor Nina Berglund.

We keep at it, though, still in the belief that there’s a need for English versions of what’s grabbing headlines and topping broadcasts in Norway, with background, photos, some perspective and occasional commentary as well. We’re proud that we now have readers all over the world and that thousands of people both in and outside of Norway are clicking in every day.

We hope you’ll keep clicking in and, better yet, support our efforts by clicking the donate button. We need more income to write more stories, and advertising is elusive. We may need to convert the site to a paid subscription service and stop giving away our news in English for free, but maybe not, if support picks up.

Our main goal is to be around for our fourth anniversary, and many anniversaries after that. In the meantime, gratulerer med dagen, and we hope your own 17th of May was a merry one.

Congratulations on your milestone, you provide a reliable source of news for us folks across the pond.

PS Please send a delegation over to our Alberta government with some pointers on how to handle our oil & gas development AND put a few a dollars in the bank for the future.

    Are you from Molde Nina?

    • Nina Berglund

Hello Robert Cumming – In answer to your question, my family is from a much smaller place in Romsdal than Molde, a little village called Verma, south of Andålsnes. My mother’s aunts emigrated to California around 1900 when they literally didn’t have enough to eat on their tiny farm in Romsdalen. I received the bunad as a gift from my husband and his parents, who ordered it in Molde because the Husfliden there specialized in Romsdal bundader at the time. Do hope this extra detail satisfies your curiosity, and that you, as a highly active and opinionated user of our web site, will also start regularly supporting it. Thank you for your interest.
