Norway’s state directorate for security and preparedness was planning to conduct its largest exercise in years on Wednesday, to drill emergency personnel on how to deal with a national crisis.
The public could expect alarms to ring and the presence of emergency crews and vehicles as the exercise is carried out by the directorate DSB (Direktoratet for samfunnssikkerhet og beredskap).
More than 600 state workers from Norwegian ministries, state agencies, local governments and other public authorities would be taking part. DSB director Jon Lea told news bureau NTB that the exercise was in part a response to a state commission’s report on the response to the terrorist attacks of July 22, 2011, which stressed that training and exercises are an important means of improving crisis preparedness.
