Naked video stunt grabs attention

Less than a week after two Norwegian brothers won massive international attention for a music video about a fox, another Norwegian is grabbing attention on the video site YouTube as well, for running around Oslo naked and trying to pick up girls.

Fred Andreas Ligaard, who’s studying in the US, made the video under the name “Freddy Fairhair” while home in Norway during the summer. In it, he takes off his clothes in public parks and on the street, and then approaches girls to ask for their phone numbers.

The stunt, which reportedly has registered a million viewings in just two days, set off plenty of squeals and some rejections, while others willingly give Ligaard their number. It all ends with an encounter with the police.

US media have criticized the stunt, noting that it can cause offense, be equated to harassment and probably is illegal. Ligaard says he just wanted to “entertain and inspire.” He said he doesn’t think it’s possible to be guilty of harassment “when the intention is simply to spread joy.”
