Couple convicted for bomb threats

A 44-year-old woman convicted of phoning in bomb threats to two hospitals and two airports earlier this year has been sentenced to 20 months in jail. A male accomplice, age 42, was also convicted but he was sentenced to just 90 hours of community service.

The two called both the Haukeland and Sandviken hospitals in Bergen, and the main airports in Bergen and Oslo on various days in August and September, falsely claiming that bombs had been planted and were set to go off.

Aviation authorities at Avinor took the threats seriously and Bergen Lufthavn Flesland was evacuated on September 18. The late-night evacuation affected around 150 passengers and disrupted flights, reported Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK).

The couple was arrested the next day and quickly put on trial. The woman was also convicted of having threatened an employee of the state child protection service. The motivation for the bomb threats, which proved to be false, remained unclear.
