Organized poker playing is illegal in Norway, but the country’s new conservative government may make an exception for a championship tournament next year. Newspaper Vårt Land reports that Culture Minister Thorhild Widvey of the Conservative Party is urging a more liberal policy towards one of the world’s most popular games.
“I hope we can have a regulatory framework in place soon enough that a Norwegian championship can be held in Norway in 2015,” Widevey wrote in a response to a Member of Parliament from her fellow government coalition partner, The Progress Party.
The coalition government declared already last autumn that it wanted to allow poker championship tournaments in Norwegian.
