Hospital under probe for faulty cancer screening

Nordland Hospital in Bodø, Northern Norway, is under police investigation following suspicions that hospital staff have misinterpreted cancer screening results over a period of at least three years. Several hospital employees have already been called in for questioning.

News bureau NTB reported that police are following up on a request from the county medical authority (Fylkeslegen), with prosecutors stressing that it’s the hospital and not individual employees that’s under investigation.

The probe resulted from complaints lodged by three patients that the hospital had misinterpreted screenings that should have revealed cervical cancer. Hospital staff publicly apologized for the errors late last week.
