93-year-old assaulted in her own home

Health workers found an elderly woman lying in a pool of her own blood on Wednesday morning after she was knocked down and robbed in her own home in Bergen. The 93-year-old managed to trigger the security alarm she wore for health reasons, summoning staff from a nearby nursing home.

“The aged care nurses say there is a lot of blood at the site,” duty officer Erik Gjesdal at the police control room told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK).

Investigating officer Kjersti Eidsnes from Hordaland police said the matter was extremely serious, and considerable resources would be aimed at finding the offender. “It is a serious crime to rob an elderly and defenseless woman in her own home,” she said.

The suspect was described as a dark-skinned man in his 50s with short dark hair, wearing a dark coat. Police said they were conducting interviews and searching security footage from nearby petrol stations. “We have talked with neighbours, who say that someone has gone around and checked doors in the area,” Eidsnes said.
