UPDATED: Norway’s men’s handball team ended its winning streak at the European World Championships Friday night, after a thrilling semi-final match against Germany. The latter scored in the last minute, giving the Germans a 34-33 victory over Norway and securing them a spot in the finals.
The match ended in more than just disappointment for the Norwegians, though. Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) reported that Norway intends to file a protest, because the Germans had two goalkeepers in action during the final minutes. That’s a violation of the rules.
Heidi Tjugum, team leader for Norway, confirmed to NRK that a protest would be filed by 9am Saturday. Then it was to be up to handball authorities to take the case further, but the Norwegians later decided to withdraw the protest.
