Mysterious pipe death ruled an ‘accident’

Police in Oslo were staying mum about how and and why the body of a man from Sweden was found in a pipe at a construction site last month, but they’re calling his death an “accident.” They won’t say why they’ve reached that conclusion, but have ruled out murder.

Newspaper Aftenposten reported this week that police have worked on the theory that the man crawled in the pipe himself. “I don’t want to go into detail about what makes us conclude that this was an accident,” Stein Olav Bredli of the Oslo Police District told Aftenposten. “His survivors have been informed about the cause of death.”

It wasn’t being released either, with the preliminary autopsy report failing to reveal a clear answer on what killed the man. His body was found with very little clothing and no identification by a crane operator working at the site where the new Munch Museum is under construction.

He was later determined to be a Swedish citizen in his 30s who was living in Oslo. He had not been reported missing.
