Food prices finally ease a bit

After a hefty increase early this past summer, retail prices for food and alcohol-free drinks declined by 1 percent from July to August, according to state statistics bureau SSB (Statistics Norway). Food prices are still running well ahead of last year at this time, however.

Prices for eggs, meat, dairy products, fruit and vegetables declined, with the price of eggs declining the most, by 3.6 percent.

Overall food prices were still 3.3 percent higher in August than they were in August of 2015. Norway’s consumer price index rose by 4 percent during the same period. It fell by 0.5 percent
