Asylum seekers convicted of gang rape

Three young asylum seekers in Norway have been convicted and sentenced to prison for up to six years, after being found guilty of raping a woman when she was on her way home from the Kongsberg Jazz Festival last summer.

The three men were sentenced to jail terms of four years and nine months, five years and six years respectively, reports state broadcaster NRK. The sentences are lengthy by Norwegian standards and in line with what prosecutors had sought.

The woman, who’s in her 20s, testified that she was assaulted and dragged into a home on the night of July 6 last year, where she was raped by all three assailants. Two of the men admitted guilt while the third claimed the woman had consented to sex. Two of the jail terms were appealed on the spot, while the third was under consideration.
