American disrupts deportation again

An American woman who failed to obtain the asylum she sought in Norway has once again delayed her deportation after causing a fuss on her outbound flight before takeoff last week. The pilot refused to fly with her onboard.

It’s the second time in less than a month that Norwegian authorities have been foiled in their attempts to send her out of the country. Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) reported that the woman, a former diplomat stationed at various US embassies around the world, was put on a flight late Friday afternoon but she refused to take her seat. When she defied the captain’s request that she sit down and follow police orders, she claimed her arm had been broken after alleged police brutality.

She was eventually sent back to a detention facility for rejected refugees awaiting deportation, located adjacent to Oslo’s main airport at Gardermoen, where a doctor later concluded that she had no serious injuries.

The former diplomat’s troubles began after a short marriage and divorce five years ago. Her ex-husband was granted custody of their only child, whom he took with him while on overseas assignment for the US government himself. The woman sought custody of the child in court but lost after several rounds of legal action.

She thus claims the legal system in the US is corrupt and that she’s being persecuted, prompting her to travel to Norway where she unsuccessfully sought asylum last year. A third deportation attempt is expected, since her residence permission in Norway is due to run out next week.
