Oslo’s underground transit system, the T-bane, was mostly back in service Thursday after a derailment on Wednesday shut down all operations through downtown. Commuters, though, were told to brace for delays and some lines wouldn’t be running on schedule until Friday.
Website Aftenposten.no reported it was taking more time than expected to repair the tracks at the Tøyen station, where two carriages veered off them early Wednesday morning.
Lines 2, 3, 4 and 6 were running as normal again on Thursday morning, but passengers traveling from Vestli towards downtown had to transfer to other forms of public transport at Tøyen.
Meanwhile, a major water leak in Oslo’s Grünerløkka district was causing problems for the tram lines that run through the area. The leak turned the street named Toftes Gate into a river of sorts, with the water quickly freezing in outdoor temperatures of minus-12C.
Police blamed the leak on a burst water pipe under Toftes Gate, near Schleppegrells Gate. The water also flooded into the cellars of nearby buildings and a parking garage.
