Norwegians are in the midst of some long holiday weekends, and Views and News from Norway has reason to celebrate as well. It’s been a year since we officially launched this news site. Please help make sure we’ll also be around for more anniversaries in the future!
Lots of Norwegians took off on holiday last Thursday, which is known as Kristihimmelfartsdag (Ascension Day) in Norway. Monday, meanwhile, was the much-loved Syttendemai, the 17th of May celebrations that honor the creation of Norway’s own constitution after 400 years of Danish dominance, and the upcoming three-day weekend celebrates Whitsund, or Pinse, as it’s known in Norwegian.
We’re taking a bit of a break along with most everyone else in Norway, to celebrate our own independence. We’re proud that as many as 60,000 readers are now clicking in to our pages every month.
Only a tiny percentage of you, however, have actually contributed to Views and News, despite our long-standing front-page request for donations. We have thanked each and every one of you who has sent a donation, but hereby appeal for all our readers’ support. We’ve written nearly a thousand stories during the past year, and clearly they’ve attracted an audience. Won’t you please help keep such stories coming? We hope to maintain a restrictive advertising policy, and rely instead on reader support.
