Job losses loom in Elverum

Nearly 200 employees at pharmaceutical company Nycomed’s plant in Elverum, Hedmark County, may lose their jobs because Nycomed’s owner wants to move production to Germany and Poland, reported Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) this week.

The 192 persons working for Nycomed in Elverum were told of the proposed production move on Tuesday, leading to protests from their labour unions. Nycomed’s owner, Takeda Nycomed of Japan, wants to move production over the next two years in a cost-cutting move.

Takeda reported that it needs to tackle price pressure in the pharmaceutical business, maintain competitiveness and reduce over-capacity at some of its European plants.
