Metal fell from Norwegian Air flight

A Boeing 787 from Norwegian Air ran into trouble right after takeoff from Rome on Saturday. Warm pieces of metal reportedly fell down from the flight, smashing car windows and damaging a home, before it turned out and made an emergency landing back in Rome.

The flight, DY 7115, was bound for Los Angeles when its cockpit crew became aware of a problem with one of its motors, confirmed a Norwegian Air spokeswoman to Norwegian media. “The captain chose to return and the flight landed safely,” she said.

Am investigation into the incident is underway, according to Italian media. A local mayor reportedly is not pleased, claiming that police, firefighters and other emergency crews were left to pick up hot pieces of metal that allegedly fell from the Boeing 787. Some of the pieces were as large as 10 centimeters.
