Songwriters call Grammy ‘fantastic’

Norwegian musicians haven’t won many Grammy awards, but now the songwriting duo from Trondheim called “Stargate” has grabbed the latest, and thinks it’s “fantastic.”

Mikkel Storleer Eriksen and Tor Erik Hermansen moved to New York several years ago and have produced one hit song after another. While some officials at Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) were slow to recognize their talent, and even downplayed it at one point, Eriksen and Hermansen went on to write songs for some of the biggest names in the business, and stayed in the US.

They won the Grammy for “Best Dance Record” over the weekend, “Only Girl (In the World),” which became a hit for singer Rihanna.

“This is just fantastic,” Eriksen wrote in a text message to Trondheim-based newspaper Adresseavisen. He and Hermansen accepted the prize along with partners Kuk Harrell and Sandy Vee, reported newspaper Aftenposten. They beat out Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own” and La Roux’ “In It For The Kill.”
