Nesbø becoming a book billionaire

Multi-talented Norwegian crime writer Jo Nesbø’s star continues to rise as sales of his gritty crime novels boom worldwide. Global sales are soon expected to top NOK 1.5 billion (USD 250 million).

Newspaper Dagens Næringsliv (DN) reports that Nesbø has sold about 620,000 books translated into English so far this year, taking his total number of English language book sales to 3.8 million. On a worldwide basis, sales will soon tip the NOK 1.5 billion mark, according to DN.

The writer and musician’s latest book, Politi (Police) has debuted in sixth place on the prestigious New York Times Best Sellers list.  The placing in this week’s Hardcover Fiction list is Nesbø’s best ranking to date, topping his previous high of ninth place.

The listing comes as Nesbø wraps up a three-week Police book tour of the United States and Canada, reports newspaper VG. The tour will continue in Germany next week, before Nesbø heads back to Norway to reunite his popular band, Di Derre.
