US radio legend finally buried in Oslo

Casey Kasem counted down the hits on American pop radio, but when he died half a year ago, he may not have counted on the drama his burial would cause. Newspaper VG confirmed just before Christmas that the Hollywood star finally was laid to rest at a cemetery in Oslo.

His widow Jean Thompson Kasem thereby seemed to win a bitter feud with Kasem’s adult children. They’d objected to her decision to send his body to Norway because Kasem had allegedly claimed the country “symbolized peace and looks like heaven.”

The objections meant that Kasem’s body was left lying in an Oslo morgue until a November court hearing in Los Angeles ruled that Kasem’s children had no right to have their father’s body returned to California for burial.

The head of Oslo’s burial agency (Gravferdsetaten) confirmed in an email to VG that Kasem was thus finally buried at the cemetery known as Vestre gravlund on Tuesday December 16, four months after the body arrived in Norway. VG reported that the grave was decorated with three wreaths of roses, covered in snow.
