More people than ever before were running in the Oslo Marathon on Saturday, and they set records for both participation and, in the women’s category, speed.
A total of 29,100 runners had signed up for the race, which sold out all its slots even before Christmas last year. Several thousand more were put on a waiting list and organizers said nearly 30,000 actually ran.
Runa Skrove Falch was the first woman to cross the finish line, with a time of two hours, 38 minutes and 13 seconds. That was the fastest ever for women in the Oslo marathon and surprised Falch herself, who otherwise works as an attorney. Erik Lomås won the men’s marathon with a time of two hours, 21 minutes and 42 seconds, in cool and overcast weather.
