Norway’s defense industry has been expanding so rapidly and become so important that some of its executives may become targets themselves. The chief executive of weapons producer Kongsberg Group is among those who now have a bodyguard.
Not even prime ministers had bodyguards in Norway until fairly recently, but news service Nettavisen notes how those days are over. Kongsberg is among major companies (and the government) sharpening security around not only their business but key employees.
The background, reported Nettavisen recently, is increased concern over Russian “grey zone activity” directed at the European defense industry and critical infrastructure. “That includes use of security personnel around top management,” Kongsberg spokesman Ivar Simensen told Nettavisen. He declined to go into further detail.
