Chile is celebrating its bicentennial this year, and the country’s ambassador to Norway, Juan Anibal Barria, found that a fitting occasion to celebrate relations between the two countries.

Barria presented a plaque to Oslo Mayor Fabian Stang at the Embassy of Chile on Wednesday that formalizes “a long history of friendship, solidarity and cooperation” between two nations that “share the joy of freedom, justice and peace.”
The ambassador also gave Oslo’s mayor a rock taken from the site where Chilean miners were trapped and later rescued in a dramatic series of events that caught worldwide interest.
The plaque will be mounted at Aker Brygge, the residential and commercial complex on Oslo’s waterfront, to further symbolize the importance of the sea to both countries.
