Another jewelry store robbed

Oslo’s wave of jewelry store robberies continued this week with the armed hold-up of the Thune goldsmith and jewelry store at Majorstuen. Police were still searching for two masked assailants.

They stormed into the store, located on one of the busiest corners of the capital, at around 10:30am Tuesday and threatened employees with a pistol. They were carrying a green plastic shopping bag, a brown suitcase and a backpack.

The contents of their haul wasn’t confirmed and they fled on foot, heading eastwards up the main boulevard called Kirkeveien. Police were asking for tips from the public.

The heist was the latest in a series of jewelry store robberies in Oslo during the past year, some of them armed and some of them elaborate break-ins conducted on weekends or in the middle of the night. The latest occurred earlier this month, when a store further down another main street running through Majorstuen was hit by explosives during the night. In that case, though, the thief or thieves apparently were frightened by the blast themselves and ran off.
