A pedestrian walking along the heavily trafficked road leading out of Oslo to the south, Mosseveien, was killed after being hit by a truck.
Police told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) that the victim was a 59-year-old man walking along the stretch of the road at Katten, a popular adjacent beach area.
“The victim was given emergency first aid at the scene, but his life couldn’t be saved,” Tore Solberg of the Oslo Police District told NRK. The driver of the truck was not physically injured.
The fatal accident blocked all traffic on the road, which is part of the E18 highway through Oslo. The stretch of Mosseveien where the accident occurred, however, runs through a residential area.
The road re-opened around 2:30pm.
