Child porno raid nets 19

Norwegian police have arrested 19 persons as part of a coordinated, major European crackdown on child pornography. The 19 persons in custody are accused of possessing photos showing sexual assaults on children.

Another 12 persons were arrested in Sweden, according to the authorities, who were reluctant to reveal details of the raids conducted in 25 other countries in Europe on Wednesday. They wouldn’t even initially say where the arrests were made, for fear members of the alleged porno network would be able to warn each other.

More details emerged on Thursday, including a breakdown of where the Norwegians were arrested and their computer equipment seized. Only one person was from Oslo, while three arrests were made in Hordaland on the west coast, three in Vestfold south of Oslo and two in Sør-Trondelag. The raids involved 13 police districts, from Agder in the south to Telemark and Gudbrandsdal.
