Around half of Norway’s so-called “minibanks” (automated teller machines, ATMs) were knocked out of order all over the country on Sunday. Most were due to be up and running again on Monday.
Officials blamed a “machinery error” at the supplier of the electronic banking services, now called “Evry.” The problem also affected the online banking services of several financial institutions.
Geir Remman, communications director for Evry, said the error was found and that staff was working hard with Evry’s own supplier to restore service at both the minibanks and online banking services.
