Norwegian cattle known as Norsk rødt fe have become a popular export item, with both Russia and China emerging as interesting export markets. Genes from the Norsk rødt fe are attracting the attention of commercial firms like Geno Global.
Norwegian development agency Innovation Norway has granted around NOK 1 million to the company, with Agriculture Minister Lars Peder Brekk claiming it has “great competence” within breeding and biotechnology .
The export of genes from the Norsk rødt fe dairy cattle is increasing annually, reports news bureau ANB. “This will help Norwegian dairy ranchers,” Brekk told ANB, referring to the sale of sperm from the reddish-brown cattle.
Geno Global reportedly is involved in a project that’s investigating the potential for export to both China and Russia, two of the world’s largest markets for dairy cattle.
