An unusually large amount of police and military personnel were expected to be seen on the streets in and around Oslo this week, as a national exercise on handling a crisis got underway on Tuesday. The exercise was due to run through Thursday.
The police districts for Oslo and Romerike, just north of the capital, were taking part along with the military. Various exercises involving armed police and troops would play out in the downtown area and at Oslo’s main airport at Gardermoen, reported news bureau NTB.
The exercise is part of special training programs to improve emergency preparedness in Norway and response to serious crime and terrorism. In addition to armed personnel, the exercise would involve the use of emergency vehicles and helicopters.
