Producers confirm third season of ‘Lilyhammer’

Fans of the hit Norwegian TV show “Lilyhammer” can count on another season next fall. State broadcaster NRK and Rubicon confirmed that production was underway after agreeing with Netflix on a big new budget.

Newspaper Dagsavisen said the third season of the dramatic comedy starring Steven Van Zandt has a budget of NOK 120 million (USD 20 million), double that of its last season and allowing for more international cast members and more travel. The budget makes it the biggest TV series ever produced in Norway.

The series, which tells the story of a New York mafia boss who’s resettled in Norway under a new identity, has attracted strong ratings both in Norway and abroad. The first season was sold to around 150 TV markets around the world, not least because of Netflix’ presence on the Internet. The second season of Lilyhammer, which ended in Norway last week, was recently made available to Netflix user in the US.

The third season will start airing in Norway next fall.
