Inflation rate rises again

Norway’s state statistics bureau SSB reported on Friday that the country’s consumer price index rose to 3.4 percent from September of last year to September this year. SSB blamed most of the rise on higher fuel prices.

They’ve since dipped, but last month’s fuel shock also can have an effect on the price of other goods and services. Gasoline and diesel prices at the pump jumped by 27.7 percent from August to September, reported SSB, noting that the statistics bureau had never before measured such a large increase in its CPI, which is a common measure of inflation.

The price of clothing and shoes rose, meanwhile, by 4 percent, while the core inflation rate (from which electricity rates and fuel are removed) landed at 3 percent. That’s still higher than the 2 percent-goal set by Norway’s central bank, which recently raised interest rates in an effort to bring inflation now.
