Danes buy Get cable TV firm

Norway’s major cable TV firm Get has been purchased by TDC of Denmark, making it Scandinavia’s largest cable television company. TDC is paying nearly NOK 14 billion (USD 2.3 billion) for Get.

“The purchase of Get is TDC’s biggest and most important investment for many years,” said TDC boss Carsten Dilling. “We’ve been waiting for this opportunity, and view this as a natural and timely expansion of our operations.”

Dilling confirmed that the acquisition of Get will secure TDC’s position as a leading Scandinavian distributor of TV, entertainment and high-speed broadband services via cable. Get has been owned by Quadrangle Capital Partners II and Goldman Sachs Capital Partners, and reported that it also had evaluated a stocklisting in addition to a sale.

Get’s chief executive, Gunnar Evensen, called the deal “very good news for Get’s customers and employees.” He claimed it also would strengthen competition in the Norwegian market.

The deal is pending regulatory approval, which is expected in the fourth quarter.
