A small plane crashed north of Halden Tuesday evening, killing its pilot, a man in his 60s from Rogaland in Western Norway. Police said the cause of the crash remained unclear.
“We don’t know why the plane crashed,” Terje Marstad of the Østfold Police District told state broadcaster NRK. He confirmed that the body of the pilot had been recovered and his next of kin had been notified.
Police received an emergency call at around 6:30pm from a witness who said a small plane had crashed near County Road FV22, not far from Østerbo and northeast of Halden. A search and rescue helicopter was immediately sent to the scene.
There were no other passengers on board the aircraft. It had taken off from the Sola Airport south of Stavanger just before 5pm, according to state airports agency Avinor.
