German tourist found dead in the mountains

A man found dead in the mountains of Fannafjell in Forsand, Rogaland County, has been identified as a 46-year-old German citizen. Police were working on Friday to determine the cause of death.

Police told state broadcaster NRK that he was from the German city of Osterholz and was a tourist staying at a campground in Strand and Forsand. “It was the campground that reported his tent had been left standing, longer than the time for which he’d booked the spot,” Henning Andersen, operations leader for the Sør-Vest Police District, told NRK.

That set off a search and rescue operation and the man’s body was found at the top of the mountain.

“We don’t know what happened to him,” Andersen said. “There’s nothing to indicate any criminal activity.” He said the man’s family in Germany had been notified of his death.
