Norway’s northern city of Bodø is the only Norwegian applicant to become a “European Capital of Culture” in 2024. It won support this week from leaders of the Northern Norwegian counties.

Troms and Finnmark, along with Nordland where Bodø is located, have given their full support to Bodø, which is surrounded by mountain ranges, undergoing massive redevelopment and already serves as a gateway to the wildly popular Lofoten archipelago.
Bodø itself is full of artistic endeavours, a large new library and cultural center, a lively maritime community and scenic landscapes on all sides. It faces competition, however, from historic cities in Balkan countries including Albania, Montenegro and Bosnia-Hercegovina. The winner will be announced at the end of next year.
