Funeral services set for ‘legendary’ football coach

Norwegian football players and fans were mourning the loss this week of Åge Hareide, who died on Thursday just six months after being diagnosed with a brain tumour. Hareide has been described as one of Norway’s “three great football coaches” along with Egil “Drillo” Olsen and the late Nils Arne Eggen.

Hareide played for Hødd, Molde, Manchester City and Norwich before launching his coaching career back at Molde, then Rosenborg and several other professional football clubs. He was also head coach for Norway’s national men’s football team from 2003 to 2008 and Denmark’s from 2016-2020.

His funeral will be held in the Molde Cathedral on Thursday January 8. Hareide, who also had been working as a football commentator for state broadcaster NRK, was 72.
