Barcelona rolled over Lyon in Oslo

Two of Norway’s female football stars had to play against one another at the national Ullevaal Stadium in Oslo Saturday night, as the European football federation UEFA took it over for the women’s champions’ league final. Norwegian Ada Hegerberg plays for Lyon and Caroline Graham Hansen plays for Barcelona, and the latter wiped out Lyon by a score of 4-0.

It was the first time Norway has hosted a European championship and Ullevaal was sold out for the occasion. UEFA in practice took over the Norwegian Football Federation’s workplace, but NFF president Lise Klaveness thinks it was worth it, as a means of further supporting women’s football and inspiring Norway’s own professional women’s football clubs to make it into the top league.

The weekend turned into an especially challenging one for Hegerberg, who not only lost to one of her own national teammates (Graham Hansen) but also had to deal with a break-in at her home in Lyon. TV2 reported on Sunday that the striker for Lyon had to spend much of the night before the match dealing with the burglary and police in Lyon.
