The Norwegian film Affeksjonsverdi (Sentimental value) has grabbed lots of headlines after it won standing ovations in Cannes and lots of new prize nominations. Its cast and crew went home empty-handed from the recent Actor Awards, but now a Golden Globe prize has raised spirits and hopes for an Oscar.
The Golden Globe prize to Stellan Skarsgård for his role in the highly acclaimed film directed by Joachim Trier was also dubbed “historic” by Norwegian commentators. No Norwegian film has ever won such a prize and it had fully eight nominations.
The Golden Globes are also viewed as a milestone on the way to Oscars at the Academy Awards show later this year. Sentimental value has been short-listed for Oscars in three categories: best international film, film photography and acting.
