Norwegian runner shocked over own record

Henriette Jæger seemed to be as surprised as everyone else, when she set a new record in London heading into the weekend. She ran 400 meters in just 49 seconds.

After a year in which Norwegian athletes have excelled from the ski slopes to the football field, Jæger made headlines again. “I did not see this coming,” she told state broadcaster NRK. “I’m of course here to run, but also to celebrate a fine season, so managing such a race on such a trip, it’s a great boost.”

The 23-year-old runner’s performance at the Athlos race in London made her the sixth-fastest in Europe of all time, and the best of all European women over the past 30 years.
