Residents of two towns in Troms County remained under evacuation orders Sunday night, because of severe avalanche danger.
Officials worried heavy snow from the mountains towering around the communities of Oldervik and Breivikeidet could crash down on the them, and that it was unsafe for people to remain in their homes.
Norway’s geological institute (NGI) has evaluated the risk of avalanche and rockslides in the area as “extremely high,” assigning a top character of 5 on an international scale.
Avalanche warnings were also posted in various areas of Nordland and Vest-Finnmark, because of heavy snow and rising temperatures.
