Norwegian shipowning firm Stolt-Nielsen confirmed that one of its chemical tankers was fired upon earlier this week while sailing in waters off Oman in the Middle East. The attack set off an explosion and a fire on board the Stolt Magnesium.
It’s the latest example of vessels caught in the crossfire of US President Donald Trump’s war on Iran that’s tied to his ongoing support for Israel. Stolt-Nielsen officials in Oslo could report that all crew members on board its tanker were accounted for after newspaper Finansavisen first reported the attack on Tuesday.
Other vessels in the area have also been attacked this week and at least one crew member from India was reported killed and eight others injured when Iranian missiles hit two oil tankers from the Emirates. Trump had declared last week that a ceasefire from June was over and he has since threatened more attacks on Iran.
