More than 120 soldiers in Norway’s civil defense force have resigned their posts, in protest over personnel issues in the military.
The soldiers claim that a special forces unit within the civil defense (Heimevernet), called HV-016, is being shut down in defiance of political signals from the government and without any discussion between the soldiers and military brass.
“We can’t stand by and watch how military leadership treats its personnel in this manner,” one of the soldiers, Thomas Lund Nielsen, told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK). He called the protest a “collective resignation” by soldiers who wanted the unit to remain in force.
