A 98-year-old woman living in a seniors’ residence complex at Os in Hordaland, western Norway, was found murdered in her apartment after she’d rung her medical alarm for help. A nurse responding to the call found the woman on New Year’s night, with fatal head injuries.
Police arrested, but later released, a 42-year-old man a few hours later, when responding to a report of domestic disturbance nearby. They characterized the man as aggressive and under the influence, but police themselves said they were unsure he was responsible for the murder of 98-year-old Hilda Feste. The man’s family also provided him with an alibi and he was released from custody on Tuesday.
There were no signs of break-in at Feste’s residence. Asbjørn Onarheim of the Hordaland Police District told reporters Monday that the victim’s head injuries meant there was “no doubt” that she was murdered. An investigation was underway.
