Norway’s national hockey team was doing well in the world championships as play got underway in Stockholm this week. A victory over Italy raised hopes that Norway would earn a spot in the quarter finals.
Norway beat Italy by a score of 6-2 on Wednesday, after also scoring points against the Czech Republic on Monday. Coach Roy Johansen is widely credited with the progress being shown by Norway’s hockey stars after they actually dominated over an international powerhouse, at least for awhile.
The team includes respected players like Patrick Thoresen, Marius Holtet and Mathis Olimb. Matches in the quarter-finals, meanwhile, would take place on a good day for the Norwegians: The 17th of May, Norway’s flag-waving Constitution Day.
