Star-studded restaurant plans temporary closure

Maaemo, Norway’s only restaurant with two stars in the Michelin Guide, is already planning to close for refurbishing,  just a few years after its highly publicized opening. Its chef says it will undergo “a total makeover.”

“We’ll close for the entire month of January and into February,” chef Esben Holmboe told newspaper Aftenposten on Tuesday.”It will be a completely new restaurant when we open again.”

Maaemo, which specializes in local food prepared in highly innovative ways, will get new floors, a new wine cellar and a new entrance among other things. “The idea is to refine our identity,” Holmboe said. “We’re not talking about massive luxury, but we have developed on the food side and think it’s natural to extend that to the restaurant itself.”

The restaurant is usually fully booked two months in advance, but Holmboe said no additional capacity is planned.
