None badly hurt in highway pile-up

Twelve people were taken to hospital after two trucks and 16 cars were involved in a crash on the E6 highway north of Oslo on Monday night. Seven more people were treated at the scene, but no one was seriously injured.

Police said the highway was very slippery when the pile-up happened at about 9:30pm on Monday. “There was a car which spun around,” Øyvind Strømsborg from Romerike police district told wire service NTB. “A truck tried to stop, but didn’t manage to and overturned. The truck blocked the whole E6.”

“We heard a loud bang,” 28-year-old Anders Hornslien told newspaper VG. “In the mirror we saw the truck coming towards us sideways. The car behind us was hit. It was like a movie.”

The highway between Skedsmokorset and Hvam was closed for almost five hours while crews removed the cars and brought in snow ploughs, but work to clean up the debris and damaged median strip couldn’t be done before Tuesday morning.
