18 youths caught in Bergen drug raid

Police in Nordhordland, north of Bergen arrested 18 people under the age of 25 during a major drug raid on Tuesday. Police said there’s a large problem with drugs in the area, and they’re trying to catch young people before they get too caught up in the culture.

The youngest arrested was 14 years old, reported newspaper Nordhordland. Local sheriff Einar Vatne said police seized drug money, narcotics and illegal pills. “All of them admitted to their transgressions,” he said. “Eight of them got fines between NOK 4,000 to 10,000 (USD 670 to 1,700). The four youngest have been pardoned, the rest have made confessions and must go to court.”

Vatne admitted the increasing drug problem had become a major challenge for police. “We try to catch the big ones, but will also take those who are starting on the path,” he said.

“I’m thinking with perspective,” Vatne explained. “I don’t want this to ruin the future of young people who unfortunately do not think about consequences when they flirt with substances. It’s too late when they discover they have a criminal record which stops them entering the US or choosing the school they want.”
