Hockey teams keep battling it out

The best-of-seven tournament to determine Norway’s national hockey champions has turned into a thrilling duel between the top-ranked Stavanger Oilers and Storhamar of Hamar. The Hamar squad hasn’t made it easy for the Oilers to defend their title.

The latest match played out in Stavanger on Tuesday, where the Oilers beat their opponents by a score of 3-2. That wasn’t enough to win the championship, though, since that left Stavanger with three victories compared to Hamar’s two after five matches.

If Hamar wins the next match back on home ice on Thursday, the tournament will continue on Saturday. Both teams have played well, with the Oilers taking the lead early in Sunday’s match, for example, and beating Hamar 5-2, while Hamar fought back on Stavanger’s home ice Tuesday. The match was only decided in overtime, when the Oilers’ Mathias Trettenes scored his team’s third and winning goal.

Asked whether the championship will be decided in Stavanger’s favour on Thursday or on Saturday, Trettenes told news bureau NTB “as soon as possible.”
